Thank Bruce, this week is over. Between long weekends and being sickly it’s been a while since I’ve put in a full work week, so I’m a feeling it. Had we been a little better at planning we might have gone out on a hot date (movie) tonight, but alas we missed the early show and are past the point of staying up for that show. And by past the point I mean no longer in our twenties. Early twenties.

So this is what our Friday night will look like, once again.

It’s really hard to say you don’t dig Valentine’s Day without people thinking you have something against love and puppies. So instead, I’ll just let someecards do the talking:

I would actually send my husband these cards, if we were the sort. Which we’re not. But he reads the blog, so it’s like I made an effort.

And of course, he would know that this card is more of a gesture, because in a Zombie Apocalypse I would totally just drive my car off a cliff first thing, because I can’t stand being scared.

How the holidays start

At the end of summer my husband upgraded our cable whatchamacallit to a bunch of HD stuff. And it’s almost ruined Christmas.

You see, when he did the upgrade he switched over a bundle of standard channels for a bunch of HD ones. I was a bit sad over a few channels we lost, but overall, it was all good.

Then last week I realized it eliminated the classic movie channel. And that’s how we circle back to Christmas.

In November I always do a search for the movie White Christmas, set the PVR to record it, and then one Sunday morning in December I wake up to find it had recorded.

Cue me breaking out the Baileys, snuggling on the couch and getting a little tipsy on a Sunday morning while I watch White Christmas. That’s how Christmas gets started.

But this year, that won’t happen. Not quite.

I’ll still watch it, but on the computer instead of the TV, on the daybed instead of the couch. The Baileys will remain. We do buy it in bulk, after all.

Knit one (and two)

Last Christmas my mother-in-law taught me how to knit. I quickly found out that I loved buying yarn (all the colours and textures!) and starting projects, but I wasn’t great at finishing them. I am almost done the baby blanket I started last March (in your face everyone who thought I was pregnant just because I was knitting a baby blanket – sometimes a girl just likes making wee-sized items).

In the last few weeks I’ve been spending a bit too much time in front of the computer screen and so I’ve been making a effort to step away from the pretty pictures and go a bit more low-tech. And you don’t get much more low-tech then banging two sticks together.

Cowl scarves are the perfect little project, because when you knit in the round you just keep going until you’re done without too much thinking. I’ve been experimenting with different sizes of needles and types of yarn and here are two that made it out of my lab (aka, the living room).

On birthdays and lies

Today is the birthday of one of my favourite ladies in the whole world. She told me that she is turning 19, but I’m pretty sure she’s a liar.

Considering she’s my grandma and all.

She also told me she saw someone shorter than her and her sister, which I know is a lie. They are the smallest sisters in Saskatchewan. Possibly all of Western Canada? There’s no way to know.

I told her that the card was not in the mail. Which means I am not a liar. Just terrible at getting stuff done.

Going dark

Something in my house is going dark. And it’s not just my bathroom light. Which started out as one of those vanity light strips with eight bulbs. It still has eight bulbs, but only three of them work. I’ve promised myself when the last bulb burns out, I get a new fixture. I have not informed my husband of this promise.

No, something else is going dark. Benjamin Moore Polo Blue dark. Delicious. That’s all for now.
